The Marketing Cookbook For Translators, is not just another book about marketing. It’s specific to your niche, targeted to your needs like a pinch of salt to a soup.
- The tools to market your translation services in an efficient way,
- Methods and systems to perform the marketing to your ideal clients,
- Strategies to maintain a continuous marketing plan to find new clients and keep your existing clients and to get the word out about your translation services so that the clients can find you instead of you trying to find them.
By writing the Marketing Cookbook for Translators, I wanted to create an easy to follow guide for freelance translators looking to build or grow their business, outlining all the marketing and client retention strategies to make that dream a reality. I wanted it to be as easy as following a recipe in a cookbook and this is it.
What others say
“Many freelancers struggle with marketing because it feels overwhelming; in the face of too many options, most of us end up doing nothing. Tess Whitty’s “cookbook” approach helps defeat analysis paralysis by breaking the seemingly insurmountable task of finding clients into steps that take as long as you have. If you have fifteen minutes, pick one marketing appetizer to get the ball rolling; if you can block out more time, pick a main dish and really dive in. Whatever you choose, you’ll reap the benefits of Tess’ international marketing background and the lessons she’s drawn from building her own freelance business from the ground up.” –Corinne McKay, author of How to Succeed as a Freelance Translator and Thoughts on Translation
“In her book, Tess Whitty presents all the ingredients you need to market your translation business successfully. Whether you’re aiming at creating a refined Michelin-starred business, a bustling local brasserie or an internationally renowned group, this marketing cookbook will get you on the right track. I can certainly recommend this book to translators at any stages in their careers.” . Marta Stelmaszak, author of The Business Guide for Translators
“Just like the title suggests, “The Marketing Cookbook for Translators” lays out the fundamentals of running a freelance translation business. No assumption, no fluff, just all the facts. As a seasoned freelancer herself, Tess knows the translation business inside out, and her expertise shows throughout the book. Marketing is not about doing tricks to attract clients. It is about applying all the business fundamentals to your practice. And this Marketing Cookbook explains the ABCs in a simple yet elegant way. Your business will last for a long time only when you have a solid foundation. This marketing cookbook is a great tool to help you build that foundation. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who wants to build a thriving freelance translation business for the years to come.” – Joy Mo, author of Say Goodbuy to Feast or Famine
I have finally read Tess Whitty‘s “Marketing Cookbook for Translators” and loved its fresh, captivating yet no-nonsense approach. If you haven’t read it yet, do check it out: it’s not just for those who are starting out as freelance translators, but also for anyone who wants to reorganize their activity, work on self-branding, and generally expand their network (and if you are familiar with the author’s website and podcasts, http://marketingtipsfortranslators.com/ , you’ll know she means business… literally wink emoticon ). I appreciated the fact that the book manages to maintain a positive, empowering outlook while forcing readers to become more organized and to face the management/advertising-related challenges that freelancing entails. Thank you, Tess! – Alice Casarini

Why did I write this book?
My name is Tess Whitty and I have been an English-to-Swedish translator since 2003. During the past decade I have practiced and learned most of what you need to know in order to market your translation services and build a thriving translation business. I have a M.A. in Business Communications and a M.Sc. in Economics, focusing on international marketing and I have also worked with international marketing before I became a freelance translator. Marketing is in my backbone and I have since 2010 been sharing my knowledge with other freelance translators through webinars, conference presentations, full day in-person training programs, mentoring and coaching. In the beginning of 2014 I also started a podcast called “Marketing Tips for Translators”, which was awarded the ProZ.com Community Choice Award for best podcast for translators in October 2014. This book, The Marketing Cookbook for Translators, is a culmination of these efforts. It contains over a decade’s worth of experience learned firsthand as I constructed my own thriving business in the growing translation industry. My hope is that you are able to benefit from this knowledge and apply these simple marketing recipes to your own life and business. I wish you every success and I look forward to you taking this journey with me.
