This is Who You Are and What You Want from Marketing Tips for Translators

I just did a survey among the Marketing Tips for Translators audience to learn more about you, and to find out how I can better serve you in the future. Thank you to all who have responded. In this post I wanted to summarize the results for you and share them with you.

The majority of you have been a translator for more than 1 year but less than 10, but quite a few of you have been a translator for more than 10 years, just like me.

Your preferred method of learning is reading or doing. Since I produce most of my content through a podcast, I hope you will also find time to listen. I listen to podcasts when cleaning, working out, driving in my car etc. However, I will make sure to also provide written material as often as possible. At the moment, most of my written material is in the form of checklists, e-books and books.

It is not very surprising then, that the average amount of podcasts you have listened to is 15. That means that you have about 130 other great episodes to dig into. You can do a search at www.marketingtipsfortranslators.com for a topic you want to learn more about, and get results in the form of suggested podcast episodes and blog posts.

One of my favorite questions was what your biggest challenge was right now. In order to get some statistics from your answers, I tried to categorize them. Based on these categories, your biggest challenges are with marketing (you are in the right place then), and finding clients, plus having the right mindset and selling. I will make sure to address these challenges as much as possible next year, so check in often.

This question is closely related to what you would like to hear more about. The majority chose how to find more direct clients, which is always a hot topic. Closely after that, you want to learn more about specialization and finding your USP and niche. Once you got that down you want to learn more about pricing strategies and marketing plans. I will try to cover these in particular, but also the other topics next year.

I also asked you how often you want to hear from me by email. I was glad to see that you wanted to hear from me each time I publish a new podcast episode, blog post or checklist, or once a week. I will make sure to implement this for next year then too. Perhaps then you will not miss a good episode or checklist. 😉

Thank you also to everyone who have suggested people to interview. Many of you also wanted to hear stories from other translators, how you built your career, how you overcame obstacles, how long it took, how you found clients, when you felt you have succeeded as a freelance translator, etc. I would love to interview each and every one of you. If you are willing to be interviewed (30 minutes over Skype) do send me a message to tess@marketingtipsfortranslators.com. I would love having you on the show. Together we can make Marketing Tips for Translators great.

I am always here for questions, feedback or suggestions and I look forward to hearing from you.
