Episode 278: Advertising Your Translation Services When Employed

Welcome to the third episode of this year’s AMA. I do these episodes every once in a while, and I love your questions, so thank you to all of you who submitted your question.

In this episode we’re going to talk about direct outreach to client as a marketing method, especially if you are currently employed. If you do not want to create profiles on social media advertising your translation services, you can reach out to translation agencies. I also recommend becoming a member of a professional association for translators as soon as possible and get listed in their directory.

When you reach out to agencies directly, without posting anything on social media or in a database, you are not revealing in any way that you are looking for “work” elsewhere. Granted, many agencies would like to check you out online before working with you, so the sooner you can establish a LinkedIn profile that is more in line with your freelance career, the better, same goes for a website.
