4 Habits Every Translator Should Develop (During COVID-19)
05/01/2020Episode 242: How to Stand Out and Define Your Unique Selling Point
05/11/2020This episode was recorded before the pandemic changed the world and I want to keep providing you with marketing and business tips. I also want to go back to normal content, since many of you might be inundated with, or tired of, hearing about the Covid-19 right now. If you are subscribed to my newsletter, you will also get useful tips and resources on how to handle this pandemic, how to market right now and much more.
In this episode, we talk about aligning our marketing to our work-life priorities, rather than work-life balance. As freelancers and business owners we constantly juggle work with parenting and being a good friend and spouse/partner, daughter, son, plus hobbies and everything else life can throw at us. Instead of trying to balance it all, it is more important to set good priorities for ourselves.
I discuss this topic with two fellow translators and podcasters – Madalena Sánchez Zampaulo and Veronika Demichelis. They have a fairly new podcast called Smart Habits for Translators and I have the pleasure of having them on the show today to talk about smart habits for creating work-life priorities as freelance translators.
Important things discussed in this episode:
- How to create work-life priorities (instead of work/life balance)
- How to align our marketing tasks with our work/life priorities
- What to do during different seasons of our careers when it comes to setting priorities – as new translators – mid-career and towards retirement

Thank you Madalena and Veronika! It is true that it is more a question of priorities than balance, and choosing the “right” priorities for our lives and businesses. Go check out their website and podcast by clicking on the link above.
