No matter where you are in your career as a freelance translator, you need, and will benefit from, a marketing plan. A marketing plan makes your marketing more effective. It enables you to focus your efforts, creates consistency and helps you spend your time and money wisely.

To build a powerful, effective marketing plan, we need to define what marketing is. Marketing is telling people what you do… over and over. There are many ways to tell people – in person, by phone, in writing, on the web, through media, but you have to tell them.

I hope these tips will help you create your own marketing plan. Don’t give up before you’ve tried. Marketing plans rarely work right away. It is consistency and persistence that really pays off. Work on your plan for three months, adapt as necessary, and I promise you, you will start seeing results. I’ve used a marketing plan for the last 5 years and I have definitely seen results.
