Episode 207: How We Can Act and Be Professional as Freelancers – Interview with Vasiliki Prestidge
06/10/2019How to Make Six Figures as a Freelance Translator
06/25/2019I have heard that many interpreters are listening to this podcast too, with requests to cover more about interpreting. This is the episode for you! I have the pleasure of interviewing a very experienced interpreter, who is also passionate about educating other interpreters about the profession. A lot of what he says also applies to translators.
Tony Rosado emphasizes that we have to treat interpreting as a profession and a business, that money is not a dirty word, and that professional services as complex and difficult as interpreting must be treated and compensated. We are also talking about how to get better clients, how to assess the cost and value of an interpreting assignment, and how to educate the clients so they understand what we do and its relevance to their own professional future.
Important things covered in this episode:
- How to become more entrepreneurial and understand our own value
- How to get better clients
- How to assess the cost and value of an interpreting assignment
- How interpreters can take advantage of globalization and new technology
- Fees for remote interpreting
