Episode 30: Tips on pricing strategies, negotiation and raising prices for translators

Learn about pricing strategies for freelance translatorsWelcome to the 30th episode of Marketing Tips for Translators. To celebrate another 10 episodes, this is a solo show, just like with the 10th and 20th episode. In this episode I discuss pricing strategies and negotiation for translators, based on some of the parts from a webinar I gave for eCPD webinars earlier this fall. I have noticed that pricing is a sensitive issue for freelance translators, and also the most discussed issue.

In this episode I discuss the following:

  • Different pricing zones and how we can use them
  • What we can charge extra for and what customers may ask for a discount for
  • Pros and cons of per word rate – per hour rate – per project rate and pricing packages
  • How to find clients that want to pay your target rate
  • Mindset for getting paid what you are worth
  • Rate negotiation tips
  • Increasing your rates or not
