Some translators may be introverts and prefer conducting business from a computer, but if we really want to go out and find our ideal clients and colleagues, we will have to go out and network. This interview is based on John Di Rico’s presentation “Managing the Mingling” at the American Translators Associations 55th Conference in Chicago earlier this fall. Here we are discussing how to network and mingle in a fun and efficient way.

John Di Rico

John Di Rico began translating in 2005 and specializes in financial translation and marketing from French to English. He currently works as the Training and European Sales Manager for Wordfast and runs a small translation business—ApexTra—in France. He is a member of the French translation professional association (Société Française des Traducteurs), the American Translators Association and ProZ.com‘s Certified Pro Network.  John has been offering professional training for translators since 2006. He has taught more than 400 translators how to use Wordfast. In 2010-2011, John traveled around the world, training more than 75 translators in 15 countries, including translators at the United Nations Mission to East Timor.
