Episode 62: Mastering language learning for translators – Interview with Luca Lampariello

Most translators are interested in language learning. We know at least two, if not more languages and are eager to learn more. I know I am and one of the things I enjoy when meeting other translators is discussing the intricacies of other languages. In this episode I have the pleasure of chatting with a true polyglot that I met in May in Croatia. Luca Lampariello has lived in Italy all his life, and yet he can speak 10 languages fluently. I listened to him speak perfect French and Swedish in Croatia for example. In this episode we are discussing his method for language learning and how we as translators can reach native fluency in many languages.

In this episode we cover the following:

  • How to reach fluency in 10 languages without living in the countries where they are spoken
  • Translation as a tool to start learning a new language
  • How to use Skype to learn a language fast
  • The Luca Method
  • Language learning materials

An absolutely fascinating discussion with a fascinating person, don’t you think? I have already read a few of Luca’s blog posts and watched some of his videos, and I recently also ordered material from Assimil. I hope you get a chance to meet Luca or talk to him one day. In the meantime, best of luck with your language learning and translations.

I really like Luca, he is so humble and seems like a sweet good person. People with his success usually turn (or seem) a bit smug, especially in the internet language learning world, where you usually have to put big impressive titles to be heard… He is a true inspiration 🙂
