Episode 64: The importance of translator education and how to use it – Interview with Steven Gendell

Learn the importance of translator education and how to use itBetween the recording of this interview and the publishing date, there were a major reorganization at NYU and Steven Gendell is no longer working there, but pursuing new opportunities.

In this episode I have the pleasure of interviewing a language professor and coordinator for Translation and Interpretation studies at New York University’s School of Professional Studies. We are discussing the importance of translator education and the most important benefit of having an education in translation. Steven Gendell has also been a translator himself for 18 years, working both in-house and as a freelancer.

  • How important it is that translators have a professional degree in translation
  • The most important things a translator learns when studying translation

Freelance French to English translator with more than 18 years of experience in a wide array of subject areas including: legal, financial, banking, insurance, alternative energies, automotive and oenology. Published literary translator; translations have appeared in scholarly journals such as NYU’s “French Politics, Culture & Society”. Former in-house translator at the French Mission to the United Nations; former adjunct professor at the Sorbonne in Paris (Paris II – Panthéon-Assas). Currently Translation and Interpreting Studies Coordinator at New York University’s School of Professional Studies.
