Episode 79: Technology tools and tips for translators – Interview with Jost Zetzsche
01/18/2016Using LinkedIn Efficiently to Find Translation Clients
01/30/2016In this episode I discuss what to do if you hate marketing and selling. This is closely related to mindset, and I also give tips on how to develop a mindset for success and some great habits to implement for a successful freelance career. I have heard quite a few freelancers say that they hate marketing, and would just like to focus on their craft. I guess since I have an education in marketing, and have worked as a marketing manager, I cannot say that I hate marketing, but I do sympathize. I have always said that I hate selling, and my dirty little secret is that I do not sell per se, I just offer my services and try make sure potential clients are aware of them.
In this episode we discuss the following:
- Getting clarity over why we hate marketing
- Being clear on how much we are worth
- Tips for successful marketing, even if you hate doing it
- Some tips on how to develop a success mindset
- 7 habits that are important to be successful as a freelancer
I hope you found this useful. Do you agree or disagree? Do you have a success mindset? Do you hate selling or marketing? It would be fun to start a discussion in the show notes, or you can just email me at tess@marketingtipsfortranslators.com. You can also share the love and appreciation by writing a short review on iTunes or Stitcher.

Thank you for the podcast, Tess! Making and updating a to-do list is really boring. That’s one of the biggest challenges for me 🙂
One of the best of your short podcasts.
Good psychology; yes we should think of gaining marketing skills as self-improvement generally. There is something to learn in the most unusual (and ugly!) places.
