Some people say you don’t have to specialize if you are working in a small language pair. I believe you can benefit a lot from specializing, no matter what language combination or language “size”. I have given talks about specializing, especially how to use your specialization as a unique selling point. By specializing we can become both a better and faster translator, and we can collaborate with other translators for the areas we don’t specialize in. Don’t you agree?

Bio:

I am a freelance English to Russian/Ukrainian translator with 13 years of professional experience in the industry. During my translation career, I changed several specializations at which I excelled. Many years ago, I used to translate in the education sector for educational institutions. A few years later, I became a translator for the steelmaking industry.
