Episode 211: Market Research Tips to Find Your Ideal Translation Clients

Marketing Tips for Translators is on vacation for the next 3 weeks – the first one in 5 years!! But don’t fret. Instead of new content, I will feature some old content from the beginning of the podcast that you might have missed. I’ve picked three episodes that seem relevant, based on a lot of questions I have received from you listeners, or from my students.

In this first episode you will hear tips on how to do market research online. One of the hardest things when trying to find direct clients, is the research step. Eve Bodeux shares some valuable tips on market research here.

In order for us to find our ideal client or target clients, we need to do some research. When we have a list of potential clients to contact, we need to know how to contact them, but also how to follow up with them and keep track of all our contacts. In this episode I am interviewing Eve Bodeux, talking about her experience of market research, both as a project manager for her own localization company, and as a freelance translator, with some great tips for both new and experienced translators.

Bio:

Eve Lindemuth Bodeux is an ATA-certified French>English translator who has been active in the translation industry for more than two decades. She specializes in corporate communications, technical marketing, and international development. She is also an independent project manager for a diverse global client base. She is co-host of the Speaking of Translation podcast and author of the book Maintaining Your Second Language and many articles. In addition, she often presents on translation-related topics at industry and business events.

She is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the American Translators Association (2018-2021) and has actively volunteered in various capacities for the ATA and the Colorado Translators Association since the 1990s.
Eve has an MA in International Relations from the University of Virginia, a graduate degree in European Civilization from the Université de Lorraine in France, and a BA in French and Political Science from Lebanon Valley College.
