Episode 228: How to Cultivate a Mindset to Thrive as a Translator – Interview with Andrew Lawless

If you are a loyal listener, you’ve probably heard me say before how important it is to have a success mindset, and what kind of thinking we should avoid in order to grow our business. In this episode I’ve invited back a business coach to dive deeper into this topic. He presented on this topic at the most recent American Translators Association conference and I wanted to share his tips with you here. He was also a guest in episode 226, where he gave us tips on how to overcome the fear of selling.

A lot of his coaching and research tips are based on a certain personality trait index called the Kolby A.

Important things covered in this episode:

  • The most common mindset among translators
  • How our mindset affects our business
  • How we can shape our mindset for increased success in our translation business

Being a freelancer is not for everyone. I just heard some news that many freelance linguists leave the industry because they cannot or does not want to run this type of business. For me, freelancing is perfect, but I’ve had to really change the way I think, and how I look at my business. Luckily we can all work on growing and changing our mindset.

Do you feel you have what it takes to be a successful freelancer? Are you struggling with a growth mindset? Please share in the comments below.
